At present, the Indian aluminium industry consists of primary integrated producers(who procure Bauxite and process into aluminium) and secondary fabrication units(who convert aluminium ingots into rolled and extruded products). the Industry is dominated by threee major producers:Aditya Birla Group (Hindalco Industries Ltd/Indal). Sterlite Group which controls Balco &Malco and Nalco a public sector enterprise.These three together account for the majority of the share of total domestic aluminium production.

 

Aluminium in the form of castings are utilized in the following sectors:

 Automobile &Transport
•
 Consumer durables
 
The automobile Industry in India has a growth of 16% in number every year . As aluminium castings are being used to the tune of 50 kgs-100Kgs in each vehicle, there is wide scope for the usage of aluminium in the Automobile Sector.Two wheelers have also shown a continous rise in production which leads to increase in Aluminium castings production.
